I am what you might call a "base brat" and was lucky enough to move around to a lot of different places growing up in a RCAF family. I even landed in Florida for high school- not a bad gig. I found my "people' in beautiful Nova Scotia when I somehow landed in a well known farmers college in little town Truro. After a gap year (where I spent some time down in the land of Oz) I completed my studies and earned my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Contrary to popular belief - -these were NOT the best years of my life, in fact, we call these my dark years.
I have moved around a lot in my first ten years out of school and trained under some of the brightest minds. I've learned that finding the "right fit" is far more important in your daily job than is salary, or days working or even practice styles. It is why I now own my practice in small town Ontario Canada. I love calling the shots and ensuring we are the right fit for others to grow and shine in their work. Owning my hospital has made me wildly passionate about my work family. I do my best to ensure that I provide my team with a true living wage (including benefits, retirement matching program and work life balance scheduling) and a positive work culture.
You couldn't pay me to go back to my 20s, where I was insecure-- where everything felt so big and so uncertain. Being in your 30s is a beautiful and magical time. I am now very much in love with the life I lead and I can't wait to share bits and pieces of it with you!
